Quotes

"Life is not a timed examination. There are very few times in life when what really matters is whether you can do something in 50 minutes, as opposed to 75. What matters is how well you're able to do it" - David Boies, Attorney, http://dyslexia.yale.edu/boies.html

from Harvard Business Review - 3 Ways to Cope with Office Noise

"Open work spaces are all the rage. Leave office doors open! Lower the cubicle walls! These are great ways to encourage collaboration and transparency, but they can also lead to noisy offices. "

Dyslexia in the workplace

Only 8 years since ETS (administrators of SAT, GMAT, etc.) stopped flagging exam scores taken under nonstandard conditions (e.g. extra time)

It's only been 8 years since ETS (administrators of SAT, GMAT, etc.) ended its practice of flagging exam scores taken under nonstandard conditions (e.g. accommodations like extra time).Yes, until October, 2003 (the year I graduated from high school), if you took the SAT with any type of accommodations (extra time, separate room, etc.) it was "flagged" as non-standard. Specifically, there would be an asterisk next to the score with a note that'd read "Nonstandard Administration." So a 1200 and a 1200* Nonstandard Administration weren't the same thing. It's hard to believe this happened only a few years ago.

Comply With The ADA When Hiring New Employees (from Certifinder WordPress)

http://certifinder.wordpress.com/2011/02/02/comply-with-the-ada-when-hiring-new-employees/
"The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has very strict rules about what employers can and cannot do during the hiring process. Generally, if employers remember one simple rule, they will be in good shape: Employers can ask people about their abilities, but not about their disabilities. In other words, employers can ask candidates how they will perform each function of the job, but cannot ask them whether they have disabilities that might prevent them from performing each function of the job."

Why Touchdowns Suck

While modern, "touchdown" workstations via "Hoteling" seem cool, they can make it very difficult to concentrate.

The Old school closed door office spaces (below) are much better.
